23rd St.Catharines Wolf Cub Pack

Outdoor Adventure. Following on from Beavers in the Scouts Canada program, Cubs are from 8 to 10 years of age. Challenging hikes, weekend camps and an introduction to water activities are just a few of the outdoor activities that Cubs enjoy. Following their motto "Do Your Best" Cubs are encouraged to try new and more challenging activities. Cubs also experience an exciting variety of other activities: games and sports, model building, music, story-telling and play-acting. Sitting around a Camp Fire planning a skit or cheer will provide an enjoyable experience and will instill the confidence to try things they never thought possible.

In the past, the 23rd St.Catharines Cub Pack has done many fun things -

  • We played games - all kinds of games. Sometimes our games were so much fun that we forgot we were also learning things (but that's OK).
  • We made crafts (some of our crafts were long lasting [like Christmas decorations] and some were short lived [like Mother's Day candles].
  • We visited Forts and the Coast Guard and a paramedic complete with ambulance visited us (and showed us how you can get turned upside-down in a stretcher without falling out! Whoa!
  • We participated in a Remembrance Day Church Parade and we celebrated BP Week (Lord Baden-Powell, our founder) with a parade and a banquet with our parents.
  • We camped out at Camp Wetaskiwin (fall, winter and spring) - at the lodge and in tents (we had to learn how to set-up the tent, start a fire and cook our own meals - ever had a Baghera Meal?)!
  • We had sleepovers at our meeting place both by ourselves and with the Scout Troop.
  • We built model cars called "Kub Kars" from a block of wood and 4 wheels. Then we raced them at a Kub Kar Rally with Cubs from all over St Catharines and some of us even went on from their to race against Cubs from all over the Area.
  • Some of us learned how to paddle a canoe and how to get back in the canoe after we fell out. How to pack our packs so they will stay dry??
  • We helped the Scouts celebrate the Jamboree-On-The-Trail by camping out with them in May (remember the 6am Thunderstorm? and breakfast in the rain!)
  • We spent 4 hours on a Friday night learning everything there was to learn about First Aid!
  • We helped with Group Fundraising like the Pasta Dinner in November and the Car Wash in May.
  • We had parties galore: Halloween, Christmas, BP Week and when there wasn't a good reason for a party, we invented one!
  • We had a Bike Rally where we biked to a park where we had a BBQ!
  • We hiked along Walker's Creek and did our bit for the environment by doing a stream clean-up.
  • We had an Investiture Ceremony in October where we officially welcomed our new Cubs and invested our Sixers and Seconds - we did that so well that we did it again in Jan and again in May.
  • We had a "Swimming-Up" and "Going-Up" Ceremony where our final year Beavers "Swam-Up" to our pack and our final year Cubs "went-up" to Scouts in May.
  • We had a CUBOREE (Camp-out for the weekend with about 250 Cubs) in June.
  • We had FUN!
... the fun and excitment continues this year... don't miss out!!
