23rd St Catharines Beaver Colony
Sharing the Adventure. As the youngest section of the Scouts Canada program, Beavers are from 5 to 7 years of age. Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Beaver program. By following a program that combines outdoor activities, creative play, music, crafts and cooperative games, Beavers enjoy time with their friends, meet new friends, learn how to get along within a group and develop confidence.
- We played games and we made crafts (as an example of our crafts, many Beaver parents tell us they have their Beaver's photo complete with their custom made frame on their shelf of honour).
- We visited or were visited by a Fire Hall; the Coast Guard and a paramedic complete with ambulance.
- We participated in a Remembrance Day Church Parade and we celebrated BP Week (Lord Baden-Powell, our founder) with a parade and a banquet with our parents.
- We had sleepovers at our meeting place and at Camp Wetaskiwin.
- We shivered at the 'Beaver Shiver' at Wetaskiwin in January and we helped the Scouts celebrate the Jamboree-On-The-Trail in May.
- We helped with Group Fundraising like the Pasta Dinner (Yummy) and
- We had parties galore: Halloween, Christmas, Valentines and in January when it was freezing we had a Beach Party.
- We had 'theme' nights where we went to Outer Space and 'Around the World' with other Beaver Colonies in far-away lands and where we experienced cooking first hand.
- We hiked along Walker's Creek and found all kinds of neat stuff that only Beavers can find!
- We helped the environment by cleaning a portion of Spring Garden Creek and planting trees and shrubs along its banks.
- We had a BEAVEREE in May
- We had an Investiture Ceremony in October where we officially welcomed our new Beavers and in May we had a "Swimming-Up" Ceremony where our final year Beavers "Swam-Up" to Cubs.
